About Us
The Schola Cantorum of Santa Fe, founded in 1990 with Dr. Billy Turney as director, has shared the ancient sacred music of the Roman Catholic Church through its concerts and outreach programs.
The Schola Cantorum of Santa Fe’s sacred music repertoire includes Gregorian chant, Medieval, Renaissance, and contemporary compositions. The Schola Cantorum of Santa Fe also shares the Alabados (religious songs) of Northern New Mexico.
The Schola Cantorum of Santa Fe’s director, Dr. Billy Turney, served as Director of Music and principal organist during his 25-year tenure at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis in Santa Fe, and has traveled to Rome on numerous occasions to study Gregorian chant and Renaissance music at the Vatican (at the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music). Dr. Turney has acted as a guest lecturer at the University of New Mexico and has been a frequent guest on Classical KHFM.
